Rating:  - Two steps forward, one great leap back?
I am slightly disappointed with my new toy, I'll try and explain.
I'm a gadget freak! I buy things that I don't really need from time to time (I'm not the only one, right?).... but when I do fork out the best part of week's wage (after the plugins, docking stations etc) I get a little peeved when it doesn't live up to my expectations.

Brilliant gadget,connected to the internet in minutes,downloaded music easily.Downside is having to pay for plug ins and also software to convert dvds to an avi file also paid extra for the charger.Expect to fork out another £100 .

I researched this product for a long time until i had the money to purchase a PMP with web browsing capabilities.
Comparing the ipod touch to the archos 605 just makes a laughing stock of apple, the archos wins hands down on everything apart from looks, and even then it doesn't look so bad.
The archos has more memory for less money, not to mention the MUCH MUCH higher quality screen and ability to record directly from tv.

Rating: - High quality and exceeded all expectations
I hoped this would be a good media player but was not expecting it to be as good as it is.
The touch screen quality is amazing and the functionality flawless.
The WiFi is great and web browsing near perfect although not all flash sites work.
The build quality is very nice.
A minor gripe is that battery life could be a bit better and the charge times are quite long using the USB charger supplied.

Rating: - Archos rip off takes the shine off
First the Archos 605 - stunning piece of kit, both sound and vision faultless and the device is very user friendly.
why 3 stars then... because straight out of the box it is useless. You can't surf the web, play mp4, mpeg2, AAC (plus other common formats) and the device takes hours (more than 5) to fully charge.
