Rating:  - Only works on 3rd generation Classic not nano
This product is really old it only works for 3rd generation classic which has stop being produced since 2005. I did have one but since it didn't work for my ipod nano or touch I sent it back for a refund.
Rating:  - Buy the Other One
I purchased the Griffin Technology Voice Recorder to record lectures...the first one I had was defective and couldnt pick up a voice from six feet away, so i sent it back. The second i purchased is a little better...but not much. I have used it with an external mike and that doesnt appear to have made any difference. A friend has the Belkin recorder and the recording quality is much better....so much so, that I have just ordered one myself. The Griffin is fine if you want a dictophone.
Rating: - Waste of money
the sound is not bad but if you are using it for recording lectures it is best to sit in the first or second row otherwise it loses quality. it seems to work sometimes and then on other occasions the files which I have saved and double checked I have saved are gone by the time i return home to transfer them onto my computer. For this reason I would not recommend buying it. :(
Rating: - absolutely awful sound quality
The sound quality is so poor partly because of the ipod software has crippled the recording to mono wav files. The proximity of the microphone means you'll record more harddrive noises than voices. I think mine was faulty, because if that is the quality its meant to record how could Griffin charge more than £5 for such a rubbish novelty. I bought this device for the mini speaker rather than the recording capability so this review should be read with this in mind. One ad i read said it could be heard across a room - only if you have very good hearing! The playback works off the ipod power and has no separate battery so only works adequately when you're in a very quiet room. If you are its ok for audio books, which is what i listen to but wouldn't be up to music.
