Rating:  - Unique features and good sound
This player has two features which are unique as far as I know, both of which I view as important.
Firstly, it plays consecutive tracks in "gapless" fashion like a CD player. This means if one track flows into another they sound like one track - there is no pause or gap between the tracks. Note this is different to "cross-fade" functions on other players which overlap the end of one track with the start of another. I bought one of these about 18 months ago and its been the best mp3 player i've ever owned. Being someone who manages to break most gadgets i buy within a few weeks this has seriously impressed me. After 6 months i did drop it in a car park and whilst there were no obvious effects, it did keep freezing up but thanks to amazons great returns policy i've had my new one since.

Initially I was very impressed, but it isnt long before the shoddy design becomes very apparent. The scroll wheel on mine broke not long after I got it, but I managed to cut a deal with rio, and a replacement was sent.
The wheel on the replacement also broke, which left a gaping hole in the top of the unit. The interior was soon clogged up with dust and god knows what else. The screen broke, creating what I can only describe as a bleeding effect. This obscured the screen. I should point out that despite ... Read More

Very cheap for its memory size and would be an excellent mp3 player if it didn't keep breaking. I have had 2 Rio Karma's and the scroll wheel has broken on them both within 3 weeks. You can still play music without the wheel but certain features of the Rio Karma do not work without it. It has a brilliant equalizer when you put it onto 5 band mode, alot better than an ipod, but i would rather pay the same money for an ipod with 1/4 of the memory and not have to send it back than pay for 20gb instead of 5 and only ... I purchased the Rio Karma from Amazon after reading many positive reviews. On paper its fantastic, its USB 2, comes with a dock (Which stylishly flashes to the music if you want), has a great 20 gig capacity and a real killer feature is the Ethernet port - so you can plug it in anywhere with java and transfer music/files. The player itself is great, good quality, good navigation and as a complete techno geek playing OGG and FLAC was a massive plus.
